Posted in Play — August 29, 2014

It’s our last Summer Friday of 2014. Alas, this week we regale the adventures of plenty had by all and share a few of our favorite moments of summer. Farewell to this past beautiful season.

We're lucky to have more than our share of summer moments in Traverse City, but paddling along the shoreline of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on a perfect August morning was pretty special. - Nick

A perfect day at the beach in Traverse City. Swinging on swings, playing in the sand, and watching the sailboats go by with my lil man. – Steve

Train tracks into the woods

I went on an impromptu camping trip with some friends. We headed out to the Tillamook Forest, hiked about a mile and a half down these abandoned train tracks, until we came upon the camp ground where our friend was celebrating his 30th birthday. My favorite part was socializing with the old hippy, who we made friends with, on our way to our campsite. - Amanda

Floating down the river my buddies and I came upon what looked like a skull in the rocks so we set up camp and were goonies for the night. – North

In addition to everything I’ve always loved about summers, like getting to spend more time with my family, this year was my first summer in Portland. Days were spent outdoors, up mountains, in rivers, and with friends. – Allyson

I went out to the Channel Islands, swam and paddle-boarded in the ocean and said hello to some dolphins. Good times. Nothing like a day on the sea. – Em

After trekking through the woods (and sea of mosquitoes) to the beach at Leelanau State Park, there is no better way to celebrate than setting down at a scenic overlook with a bottle of Mawby. To commemorate the occasion, we took this selfie. It was a really bright day. - Sarah

Oliver and I went backpacking mid-July on the Yocum Ridge trail up on Mount Hood. Being so close to the top of Mount Hood allowed us to soak in the tranquility of nature. The wildflowers were in bloom, the ice from the peak of the mountain was cracking, and the temperature was more than perfect. A perfect return to oneself. - Alex

A group of friends and I went down to Lebanon, Oregon to do the tough mudder race. it was the second year in a row I did it. The entire thing was about 12 miles with a 2500 foot elevation change and lots of mud obstacles along the way. It was challenging but really fun. - Arune

Summer time in The City--New York City, that is. Heat and humidity wasn't gonna stop us from living it up and hitting all the hot spots on this tour of NYC. From hanging out with David Letterman to Lady Liberty, super tourist all the way! - Amber

Emily, Mark and some homies hiked up to the top of Mt. St. Helens. For added challenge, Mark made sure not to do any exercise or eat anything healthy for several months beforehand. You can tell which ones are Emily and Mark because they're the ones drinking beers. - Mark
